British Invasion Custom Theme

The PCC Foundation got groovey with a British Invasion: A Mod Gala themed event, featuring a custom “Beatles” stage backdrop created by West Coast Event Productions, an iconic London telephone booth, rotating circular stage, and British flag prints that permeated the room, including on Agam lit bars, at the Portland Marriott ballroom. The Beatles were right, in that you “Can’t Buy Me Love”, though the gala did raise $300,000 to fund life altering opportunities for students at Portland Community College.

Art of Catering Dishes on Food Trends and Favorite WCEP Events

Smarsh Holiday event 2013, an Art of Catering favorite.

Creatively adapting to diverse dietary restrictions from a growing population of vegan, nondairy, and gluten free clients without jeopardizing taste or the Portland “foodie” experience can be a catering challenge–though Art of Catering (AOC) has developed solutions to meet these dietary standards while offering innovative menu and service trends clients are after.

Along with the influx of vegan and gluten free menu requests, Art of Catering Event Coordinator, Eric Sandstrom, is noticing clients straying from plated, seated, traditional banquet menus, and are turning to small plates and family-style menus.

“People like to share and sample” said Sandstrom, which is why so many clients are choosing to forego formality–opting for a variety of tapas, or small plates. Art of Catering recommends passed service for a menu comprised of tapas, or “composed plate” buffets; caterers prepare 7.5 to 9 inch plates with different samplings of complementary menu items, and arrange the mobile “composed plates” on a buffet table for guests to pick up and enjoy. AOC and West Coast Event Productions collaborated to select WCEP’s new new vortex and pasta plates which are perfect for small plate menus.

Hors d’oeuvres and small plates can be difficult to execute under vegan and gluten free guidelines, as so many feature a bread or starch-based vessel, though creative adaptions like using endive leaves as a base for hors d’oeuvres items like Art of Catering’s popular artichoke tapenade, is one of the many ways caterers can adapt to combine somewhat contradicting food trends.

Art of Catering and West Coast Event Productions have collaborated to deliver countless creative events over the past 15 years.

“We have a history with West Coast; it is always fun when clients give us the autonomy to be creative. I love seeing what West Coast comes up with, and we work with our staff to match the theme” said the Art of Catering Event Coordinator. “Working with West Coast on SMARSH holiday events has been among my favorite; we’ve done everything from glamorous Gatsby, to a gritty 80’s theme where our servers even wore side ponytails”.

From staff appearance to plating, Art of Catering is known for presentation and precise execution. Never scheduling more than three events in one day, “clients choose Art of Catering when they are looking for a higher level of food and service… we don’t try to be the biggest, but the best” said Sandstrom.  Attention to detail, and the ability to create any menu from authentic Asian cuisine to a dessert display that mirrors the event color palette has earned AOC’s reputation in Portland’s event industry, and positioned the company as a favorite among West Coast Event Production clients.

The Art of Weddings 2014

The Art of Weddings Show has been an anticipated bridal event since the beginning in 2004, when founder Alexis Turk sought out to produce a “swankier” wedding show with the “best vendors in Portland, Oregon”. This year’s Art of Wedding Show was held at the Gerding Theater. West Coast Event Productions were among the diverse array of wedding vendors, including Venus Allure Salon & Spa, August Veils, and Jennifer Alyse Photography.

Engaged couples meandered about the the Gerding Theater, making acquaintances with wedding vendors and getting their wedding wheels turning before viewing  a bridal fashion show. West Coast Event Productions provided the runway show provisions and displayed a table setting showcasing new wedding rental inventory from Beverly Hills. West Coast Event Production’s Art of Weddings table display featured bohemian gold crystal stemware, vintage flatware and china, and gold candelabras. View any wedding Pinterest board or bridal blog, and the popularity of gold adornments and tableware will be undoubtedly apparent. Wedding photographer, Jennifer Alyse, who shot The Art of Wedding Show, agrees and explains what is so desirable about the trendy, yet classic wedding color scheme

“The most aesthetic, photogenic table pieces and settings are those with dimension, different textures and the incorporation of subtle touches. I am really seeing beautiful champagne, peach and rose gold as trends for this coming wedding season” said Jennifer.

Bright and Fresh at The Portland Bridal Show

West Coast Event Productions has been part of the Portland Bridal Show for many years; each year designing a booth that features upcoming wedding trends, and incorporates WCEP’s wedding rentals and decor inventory to bring the pages of bridal magazines and wedding planning Pinterest boards to life. This year’s bridal booth was inspired by nontraditional citrus to convey natural elegance that many brides referred to as resembling a “perfect garden party”. While lemons and limes have been traditionally utilized for pops of bright fresh color, newer wedding and decor trends are making use of more complex fruits such as grapefruits, oranges, pomegranates, and apples for fall weddings.

“We wanted to create a design that all brides could take a piece from, and make it their own to fit their wedding vision” said WCEP Designer, Jessica Lleras, of this year’s Portland Bridal Show booth.

Inside Out Wedding Luxury- New Rental Products

Bringing the outside in is a classic design concept from wedding decor, to home decorating. Greenery and elements of nature add a pleasing aesthetic to open up confined spaces. On the contrary, bringing the inside out, is a growing trend for outdoor wedding decor and rentals–particularly lighting and lounge furniture. The stark contrast between a beautiful, natural, outdoor landscape and the scene of a lush elegant sitting room fit for the queen, or in the very least, an A list celebrity’s mansion, provides an intimate, cozy and elegant feel to a vast outdoor space. Chandeliers provide romantic ambiance, while over-sized lounge furniture coneys a sense of warmth. Below are new rentals added to the West Coast collection as fabulous lounge furniture and lighting rentals for outdoor vineyard and winery weddings, or ceremonies and receptions on the water. The pillows are hand-made West Coast creations as well! Outside or in, inside or out, these pieces are an enchanting addition.
